Anzac Day

Each year Lynette Silver organises and escorts a tour group to Singapore and Borneo for Anzac Day. She has been doing this in an honorary capacity since 1999 for families of prisoners of war and others who have a special interest in wartime events in Singapore and Borneo. The emphasis is on the POW experience, but not exclusively so, with cultural activities and sight-seeing playing an important part.

The full tour begins at the beginning – in Singapore, where the tour takes in all major World War II sites.

The group then moves to Borneo, following in the footsteps of the POWs, and visiting Sandakan, Ranau, Kota Kinabalu and Labuan. The tour party also has the opportunity to walk along a short and picturesque section of the death march track, identified and opened in March 2006 by Lynette and trekking expert Tham Yau Kong . An alternate program is provided for those who do not wish to walk.

The itinerary is flexible, allowing for a Borneo-only tour, as well as extensions in Sabah and Singapore and onward travel to other destinations.

Each tour follows the same broad outline, but varies from year to year, as it is tailored specifically to meet the needs of the group. Commemorative services are personalised to cater for the individual members of the party.
